About Bold & Noble

Bold & Noble was born at our kitchen table. Our vision: to create beautifully-made screen prints people would love. While Granny babysat, we worked nights on our first collection—which keeps on growing.

We created Bold & Noble to design beautiful artworks that don’t cost the earth, in both the financial and ecological sense. We make products that stand the test of time, by hand, in the old-fashioned way. And we believe in living. If it’s a sunny day, we’ll be out there looking for inspiration—providing all the work’s done.

Jane Tobitt, Creative Director

Jane manages day-to-day operations at Bold & Noble. She traces her passion for design back to her grandpa’s beautiful advertising portfolio which inspired her to follow in his footsteps. She met David while studying design at Newcastle, and after a decade working for consultancies in London, she’s as fired-up and optimistic about design as ever.

When she’s not in the studio, you might find Jane at the allotment, jogging up one of Hitchin’s many hills, rummaging at a flea market, or trying to find a warmish bit of sea to swim in.
David Wardle, Creative Director

David is an industrious and prolific designer and illustrator, and he’s worked for the most prestigious publishing houses. His book covers are always in demand, and his hands are always covered in ink. He says his granny started it, by keeping him supplied with endless rolls of wallpaper for doodling. Perhaps she knew Jane’s grandpa.

David is also a serious distance runner—the type who does ten miles before breakfast and supper—and he’s represented England.
Sarah McLaughlin, Studio Manager

Sarah is Bold & Noble’s font of all knowledge—as you'll discover if you ever ask us a question. She’s worked in the production department for Condé Nast for titles like GQ Magazine, Vogue, Tatler, Brides and World of Interiors. In these roles she worked with clients like Harrods and HSBC.

Sarah’s mum to Miles, Frank and Mia, and she thinks nothing of juggling press enquiries and order-packing with the school run.
Hannah Dennehy, Studio Assistant

Hannah’s the person who makes sure your screen prints arrive in pristine condition. Needless to say, her attention to detail is second to none. Hannah worked at Mamas and Papas as part of their graduate training programme, which involved stints as Product Trainer and Store Manager. She bought baby clothes and nursery goods for Tesco and Woolworths, and jewellery for Argos.

Hannah has a habit of raiding skips, but she always asks first and washes her hands afterwards.
Steve Platt, Screen Printer

Steve’s been printing by hand in the Hitchin area for over 30 years. He’s a true master of the craft. When David and Jane set up Bold & Noble, they quickly realised their screen printing skills wouldn’t be sufficient to sustain that seamless layer of dense ink perfectly every time. Enter Steve. Once David or Jane have mixed the inks and overseen the first few ‘pulls’ of a new collection, Steve completes the print run. And what a lovely job he does.
