Buying Guide

About our prints
Everything you need to know about our prints.
How they’re made
We use the silkscreen printing process, a traditional method resulting in unsurpassed ink density. (Yes, we’re a bit evangelical about it. But if silkscreen printing was good enough for Andy Warhol, it’ll do for us.)
All our inks are hand-mixed, so while we aim for a consistent colour, they may vary slightly from one print to the next.
We’re painstaking about our photography as we want to be sure we’re reflecting the prints’ true colours. And we try to choose names that describe each shade perfectly.
Our aim is always to make sure your print, when it arrives, matches your expectations.
Our green credentials
Each print is hand-pulled onto off-white, recycled card made of 100% de-inked post-consumer waste. That means a genuine recycling process is ensured and landfill waste is minimised.
Sizes
All our prints to fit into standard, off-the-shelf picture frames:
- 50cm x 70cm
- 70cm x 100cm (calendars and world maps)
Check the product information to see which size to buy. You’ll find stylish frames this size readily available from retailers like Ikea at very reasonable prices.
Just one more thing. Our prints are very robust. But if you hang them in direct sunlight, over the years, they may discolour. So please don’t!
About our packaging
We wrap each print lovingly in acid-free tissue paper and dispatch them in sturdy cardboard tubes.
And those tubes and plastic bungs are made from recycled materials – and we get them from a supplier less than five miles away.
They each come with a decorated Bold & Noble address label – so if you’re sending a gift, it will look really special.
Speaking of gifts…
Choosing art for someone else can be tricky, but fear not: we have gift vouchers. Just email us your choices and the name and address of the recipient.
Then just send us your payment via PayPal and we’ll email you the completed voucher to print out.
We can handwrite a message on a gift card to enclose with your present – just email us the details.
About payments
Our payments are processed through PayPal, a secure, widely trusted online payment service. All major debit and credit cards are accepted - you don’t need to set up a PayPal account to order. Once you’ve placed an order, the transaction will be confirmed by email.
If you prefer to pay by cheque, that’s fine too. Just email your order to hello@boldandnoble.com or pop a note in with your cheque.
Cheques should be made payable to Bold & Noble Ltd and sent to 25a Hermitage Road, Hitchin, Herts SG5 1BY.
Receipts
When you place an order online, a receipt is emailed to you automatically. If you’d rather pay by cheque and would like a receipt, please make this clear on your order.
PayPal issues
If you’re sending a print from one country to another and PayPal has trouble processing your payment (which they occasionally do, for fraud protection reasons) don’t panic!
- We’ll take all the details of your order by phone or email
- Then we’ll send you a PayPal request for the payment - an invoice you can pay by PayPal account or credit/debit card
About deliveries
Orders are usually dispatched within seven working days of payment.
Our prints are rarely out of stock, but if yours is, you won’t have to wait more then 28 days. And if there is a delay, we’ll let you know immediately by email.
Within the UK
Our standard UK delivery charge is £5 per order, including packaging and postage.
Your order will be sent by first class recorded delivery - a signature will be required upon receipt.
We understand that you have to leave the house sometimes, and are happy to deliver to an alternative address! Just let us know.
If the package isn’t signed for, it will be returned to your local post office for collection. If it’s still there one week later, it will be returned to us. We are happy to resend, but ask you to pay the delivery costs.
When will it get there?
The Post Office aims to deliver most first class mail by the next working day, including Saturdays. So we do what we can to make sure our prints catch the early morning post.
But for £10 packaging and postage, we can offer a bespoke next-day delivery service, where possible, within the UK.
You’ll need to pay by PayPal and contact us with your order and delivery instructions before 11am on the day of dispatch.
Deliveries outside the UK
Our packaging and shipping charges are:
- £8.50 for continental Europe, taking between 5 and 10 days
- £10 for everywhere else, between 5 and 15 days
Note that delivery charges are per order, not per print. So if you buy 15 prints, you’ll just pay the delivery charge once.
All deliveries are tracked, which means you’ll need to sign for them on arrival.
Also, please be aware that international deliveries may be subject to local import duties and taxes. These charges are beyond our control and must be covered by you.
Special deliveries
We’re perfectly happy to send prints to one address and bill to another - just email us the delivery address.
Returns
Almost invariably, our prints arrive in pristine condition and match or exceed our customers’ expectations. And that makes us happy.
So, in the very unlikely event your print should arrive damaged or faulty, please let us know within 48 hours and we’ll send you a replacement.
If you’re sending it back for any other reason, under the Consumer Protection Distance Selling Act you are entitled to a full refund if the item is returned within seven days of receipt. Please make sure you return it in its original condition and packaging.
We’d be grateful if you’d enclose a note stating the reason for the return, and telling us whether you’d like a refund or exchange. Please retain your proof of posting certificate, as we cannot be held responsible for anything that gets lost or damaged in transit.
Please give us up to two weeks to process your refund or exchange.
Bespoke orders
Bespoke colours
We can, and do, print our designs in alternative colours for bespoke requests.
As you might expect, these prints more expensive: £170 per design plus packaging and postage. While they won’t be numbered like a limited edition, you could find that you’re the only person in the world with that design in that colour!
A final note: please be aware that your colour choices will be subject to our approval as part of the Bold & Noble brand.
Odd sizes
We’re careful to work out the perfect size for each design, so rarely print them in alternative formats.
Designs
We’re very happy to accept commissions for original, one-off designs - visit our studio for more details.
Local stockists
Our prints are stocked widely in the UK and in some locations overseas too. For your nearest, just call or send us an email.
Do give them a call before you make the trip to see if they have the print you want in stock.
And please bear in mind that some stockists sell the prints ready-mounted and framed, so costs may vary.
